The Local Area
Around
The Old Steading, the outdoor facilities include a
childrens' play area, all-weather tennis court and
farm walk. Whilst indoors there is a games room complete
with table tennis, pool table, board games and tourist
information.
This
delightful area with its mild and dry climate is known
as The Laich of Moray. Predominantly a farming locality
it is renowned for the quality of its crops and livestock.
The village of Alves, a mile away has a pub and a specialist
fabric shop. The sands of Burghead Bay are five minutes
by car. Four miles east is the Cathedral City of Elgin
with an excellent selection of shops and restaurants,
the Cashmere Visitor Centre, Biblical Gardens and Moray
Leisure Centre. Whilst Forres, seven miles west, with
its award winning floral displays and interesting local
shops is well worth a visit.
Our
cottages make an ideal base from which to explore the
Highland and Grampian regions. The historic Highland
Capital of Inverness is about forty minutes by car,
whilst trips to Royal Deeside, Strathspey, Loch Ness,
the Isle of Skye and even John O'Groats can be achieved
in a days outing.
For
the more energetic there are over twenty golf courses
within a forty mile radius including the championship
course at Nairn. Loch, river and sea fishing is readily
available and water sports facilities are based at
Findhorn. Dolphin watching is an increasingly popular
activity, and there is an excellent choice of coastal
and country walks and cycle trails in the area. If
that's all too much, follow the Castle or Coastal Trails,
or even the world famous Whisky Trail along Speyside
where non-drivers may sample a wee dram or two.
